Max Perutz Look for the important problem and don’t be detoured if it turns out to be difficult because the important ones always are difficult. And young people now are under great pressure to produce publications, to produce results. So, they are really pushed to take on only problems which are safe, which you can answer within the time of a grant of three years. And, I think that’s a sad thing. You shouldn’t worry too much how long it might take and whether it will be possible to solve the problem. Just the same as in other walks of life, in science, if you want to win, you have to take risks.”
